The effects of the ‘Taegyo’ program using art therapy techniques on the anxiety, postpartum depression and maternal identity of pregnant women

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to develop the \'Taegyo\' program for pregnant women using art therapy techniques and to examine its effectiveness in anxiety, postpartum depression and maternal identity of pregnant women. This program has been developed through the following procesures: review of \'taegyo\', psychological character of pregnant women related literatures. And this program based on psychosocial adaptation in pregnancy and group art therapy. The program consists of the initial stage(3rd session), the mid-stage(4th session) and the final stage(3rd session). The design of experiment for this study are Pretest-posttest control-group design and Posttest-only control-group design. The subjects of this study consist 16 pregnant women. 8 pregnant women in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do were subjected to the 10 sessions of 120 minutes weekly program. The control group was also composed of 8 pregnant women who were similar to the intervention group. The conclusions of this study were as follows: this program is effective to decrease anxiety, postpartum depression(less burden) and improve maternal identity. Especially, they showed a higher mother-fetus interaction from the behavioral factor and a higher happiness from the emotional factor in maternal identity.
