ABSTRACT
The primary purpose of this study was to explore the influence of parentification, adult attachment,
romantic relationship perfectionism, ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and fear of intimacy of early
adulthood on romantic relationship satisfaction. The study subjects were 576 men and women in early
adulthood. As a result, the effects of parentification on romantic relationship satisfaction were found to
be expressed in the following two ways. First, romantic relationship satisfaction decreased as romantic
relationship perfectionism, ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and fear of intimacy were felt with
the formation of attachment anxiety caused by psychological parentification. Second, romantic relationship
satisfaction decreased as ambivalence over emotional expressiveness except for romantic relationship
perfectionism and fear of intimacy were felt with the formation of attachment avoidance caused by
psychological parentification. The results signify that the effects on romantic relationship satisfaction take
on a different character according to the form of attachment formed from the parentification experience.
Based on the examination, this study discusses psychotherapeutic counseling and therapeutic implications
and limitations.
