ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to validate the Korean version of the Happiness-Enhancing Activities Questionnaire for adults. The participants were 805 adults (aged from 20 to 59) in Seoul and Gyeonggi area. The results were as follows. First, a final set of 16 Likert-style items were selected for the Korean version of the Happiness-Enhancing Activities Questionnaire (K-HAQ). The K-HAQ is consisted of 4 subscales including goal-focused activities, recreational activities, community activities, activities with family and friends. The construct validity was demonstrated using exploratory factor analyses and confirmatory factor analyses. Also, the scores of the K-HAQ were found to be strongly associated with scores in quality of life, which suggested an evidence of criterion-related validity of the K-HAQ. Second, acceptable level of internal consistency and split-half reliability of the K-HAQ were demonstrated using reliability statistics. Third, in average, men spent more time in goal-focused activities than women, while women spent more time in activities with family and friends than men. These psychometric findings indicated that the Korean version of Happiness Enhancing-Activity Questionnaire is valid and reliable for Korean adults.
