ABSTRACT
This study was intended to validate the mediating effect of social support and self-efficacy in the
relationship between career stress and psychological well-being using the model on the relationship among
career stress, social support, self-efficacy, and psychological well-being of high school students. Data were
collected through self-report questionnaire administered to 960 high school students. The results of this
study were as follows: First, all paths were found significant and suitability of research model turned out
to be high in the research model in which career stress was defined as predictive variable and both social
support and self-efficacy were defined as mediating variables while psychological well-being was defined as
endpoint. Second, social support was found to have a mediating effect on the relationship between career
stress and psychological well-being. Third, self-efficacy was found to have a mediating effect on the
relationship between career stress and psychological well-being. Fourth, social support was found to have a
consecutive mediating effect on the relationship between career stress and psychological well-being through
self-efficacy. The results of this study suggested that education intervention conducive to increasing both
social support and self-efficacy would be needed to help high school students cope with career stress
effectively and increase psychological well-being.
