Impact of Mother's Emotional Socialization on Child’s Aggression: The Mediating Effect of Child’s Emotional Regulation

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of child's emotional regulation on the
relationship between mother's emotional socialization and child's aggression. 285 mothers raising preschool
children in Seoul province in Korea completed questionnaires regarding mother's emotional socialization,
child's emotional regulation, and child's aggression. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlations and
hierarchical analysis of the steps of Baron & Kenny(1986). Study findings are as follows. Regarding the
mediating effect of child's emotional regulation in the relationship between mother's emotional socialization
and child's aggression, child's emotional regulation attitudes exhibited full mediating effect. Also, Child's
emotional regulation exhibited full mediating effect in relationship between lower factor of mother's
emotional socialization and child's aggression. Accordingly, this study provides base data of mother's
education with their child and their interaction. Therefore, its findings offer programs of parent education,
child care to increase child's emotional regulation.
