The Relationship with Parent and Stepparent of Stepfamily Adolescents focused on Stepfamily Stereotype and Stepfamily Myth

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to investigate the interpersonal relationships within blended families and to examine stepfamily stereotypes and myths. The subject of this study were 43 stepfamily adolescents living in Seoul. The major significant findings were as follows: stepfamily adolescents\' relationship with their remarried parent was positively related to the relationship with their stepparent. The relationships with the remarried parent and stepparent of adolescents were each negatively correlated to the stepfamily stereotype. The relationship with the remarried parent and stepparent of adolescents were each positively correlated to the stepfamily myth. Finally, the stepfamily myth accepted by stepfamily adolescents was negatively related to the stepfamily stereotype.
