The Disparity of Reality Ego-identity and Cyber Ego-identity in Adolescent\'s Internet Game Addiction

ABSTRACT
The study observed the influence of internet game addiction on realty ego-identity and cyber ego-identity and the disparity between reality ego-identity and cyber ego-identity, related to internet game addiction level. A total of 624 students, 337 middle school students and 287 high school students were selected for the study. findings are as follows: First, internet game addiction level appeared higher in boys than girls. Second, cyber ego-identity appeared higher in boys than in girls, but reality ego-identity did not differ by gender. Third, the level of internet game addiction influenced adolescents\' reality ego-identity and the dangerous user group showed low aim directivity. Fourth, internet game addiction significantly influenced cyber ego-identity formation and especially affected cyber aim directivity, cyber unique character, cyber personal relationships, cyber self accommodation and cyber self assertion. Fifth, the disparity between reality ego-identity and cyber ego-identity was significantly affected by internet game addiction level. The study was an initial research study about adolescents\' cyber ego-identity. The results indicate the disparity between reality ego-identity and cyber ego-identity in internet game addiction.
