The Relationship between Children\'s Basic Life Habits and Pro-social Behavior

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between children\'s basic life habits and pro-social behavior. The subjects were 178 elementary school students in Seoul. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, two-way ANOVAs, Pearson\'s correlations, and canonical correlation analyses. The results are as follows: 1) Order-manners and Organization were significantly different according to grade. Also Health and Independence were significantly different according to gender. 2) Cooperation behavior was significantly different according to grade, while Helping, Cooperation, and Comfort behaviors were significantly different according to gender. 3) There was a positive correlation between children\'s basic life habits and pro-social behavior. 4) Canonical correlation analysis indicated that Faithfulness and Responsibility was the most powerful predictor of pro-social behavior. Other significant factors were Order-manners, Organization, Manners, Health, Cleanliness, and Independence. Helping behavior was the most influential pro-social behavior factor along with Cooperation behavior, Sharing behavior and Comfort behavior.
