ABSTRACT

This study examined whether death fear (consisting of 7 deminsions) was differentiated from death anxiety, whether there were differences in death fear, death anxiety and life satisfaction by age and gender, and the relationships among the three variables in college students and older adults. Structural equation analysis revealed it was reasonable to include death anxiety as the 8th dimension in death fear. Also, AN0VA revealed that individuals in the sixties, seventies, and eighties had more fear of the dying process than individuals in the twenties, and that individuals in the seventies and eighties had more fear of body donation than individuals in the twenties and sixties. As expected, the college students tended to have more death fear than the elderly and women tended to have more death fear than men. Although the elderly had a higher level of life satisfaction than college students, death fear did not influence life satisfaction significantly except among college women.
