ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to examine the multidimensional resilience of high-risk adolescents exposed to violence between parents, and the influences of protective factors on their multidimensional resilience, The sample consisted of 376 high-risk adolescents exposed to violence between parents. The findings are as follows. First, 41.5% of high-risk adolescents exposed to violence between parents exhibited personal resilience, 44.9% exhibited social resilience and 37.2% exhibited academic resilience. Second, 26.3% of the high-risk adolescents were resilient in one dimension, 28.7% were resilient in two dimensions and 13.3% were resilient in all three dimensions. Overall, 68.4% were resilient in one or more dimensions. Third, the greater the influence of the following factors; religiosity, internal locus of control, positive parenting, prosocial characteristics of peer group, support given by other adults and extra-curricular activities, the more likely that an increased level of multidimensional resilience would be seen on the part of subjects.
