ABSTRACT

This study observed the mediating effect of Reality Ego-Identity and Cyber Ego-Identity upon Family Relationship and School Life Adjustment as determined by the Degree of Indulgence of Adolescent\'s Internet Gaming. The subjects of this study were 337 middle school students and 287 high school students. The findings of this study are as follows: First, the reality ego-identity partially mediated relations both in the family and in school adjustment, in terms of the degree of Internet game indulgence of adolescents .In particular, goal orientation, interpersonal relationships and self acceptance played a mediating role. Second, cyber self acceptance, cyber self insistence and cyber ego-identity partially mediated relations that the degree of adolescent Internet game indulgence had on family relationships and school life adjustment. This study separated the ego-identity of the adolescents from their virtual and real components. The results is important in that it brings into relief the importance of reality ego-identity and cyber ego-identity in affecting adolescent adjustment problems.
