The purpose of this study was to establish the emotional developmental tasks in Korean people of different age levels and to thereby provide teachers, parents, researchers, and other helping professionals with tentative guidelines as regards developmental tasks in Koreans. To accomplish this objective, three steps were taken. Firstly, the items to be examined in emotional developmental tasks were collected from 58 people of different ages and occupational groups. Secondly, the importance of each item was rated by 194 Korean adults. Thirdly, each item within the 11 age-appropriate categories was analyzed and prioritized as a standard guideline. The main findings of the present study are that it suggests to us a possible shortlist of important emotional experiences undergone by Korean people through life long developmental stages. In total, 314 emotionally critical experiences were identified across all the age groups. The emotional developmental tasks established by this study were compared with the developmental tasks suggested by Havighurst and Kim et al.
