The purpose of this research is to examine the concept of filial piety among parents of high school students and its relationship to child-rearing efficacy and family life-satisfaction. A total of 866 participants (433 fathers, 433 mothers) completed a questionnaire developed by the present authors and the child-rearing efficacy scale developed by Bandura (2000). The results are as follows. First, parents perceived obedience as the most representative filial behavior of their children, followed by taking care of parents, assisting parents, and being affectionate, sincere and healthy. As for the expression of filial piety as perceived by parents, the most frequent response was proper manners, followed by expressions showing support, obedience, willingness to fulfill parental expectations and studiousness. Third, when their children did not exhibit these characteristics, a majority of parents reported that they would experience feelings of being saddened, followed by feeling disgusted, feeling the need to self-reflect, try to understand their children\'s perspective, disappointment and that they would be taken aback. Fourth, the participants believed that their children should be filial for the following reasons; it is their human responsibility, followed by consanguinity, to aid the proper development of their character, to promote harmonious family relationships, for the development of their children, and returning the sacrifices made by their parents. Fifth, as for unfilial behavior, respondents listed disobedience, followed by problem behavior, failing to meet parental expectations, upsetting one’s parents, ignoring one’s parents, not being studious, and insincerity. Sixth, as for filial behavior that is most moving, the participants listed being studious, followed by being obedient, sincere, taking care of one’s parents, being affectionate, using words that express closeness, and being healthy. The implications of these results for Korean parents and for the indigenous psychological approach are also discussed. As for children\'s filial behavior towards their parents, path analysis indicated that it had a direct and positive effect on the levels of family life-satisfaction and parents\' child-rearing efficacy and the latter had a direct positive effect on family life-satisfaction. Children\'s filial behavior had twice as much an impact on family life-satisfaction than the socio-economic status of the family. Children\'s filial behavior not only increases their parents\' child-rearing efficacy but the levels of their family life-satisfaction.
