ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of character education programs for university students. The character education program for university students used in this study was developed by Lee et al.(2008). The effects of the character education program were analyzed by utilizing the Korean ego-identity scale developed by Park(2003) and the perceived self-competence scale adapted by Lee(1994). The pre-test and post-test of each was conducted on 1,453 freshmen in D university during a 13 week period. 815 pairs of questionnaires were analyzed using paired t-Test. For ego-identity, the results showed that subjectivity and intimacy were improved significantly after the program. For the item concerning perceived self-competence, the levels of scholastic competence and social competence were improved significantly in terms of the total number of students and the male students. These results could lead to the conclusion that character education programs for university students can help improve ego-identity and positively perceived self-competence.
