The Effect of Group Theraplay Program on Emotional Intelligence by Elementary School student with school maladaptation

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a Group Theraplay Program on Emotional Intelligence by Elementary School student with school maladaptation. The subjects of this study were two groups (an experimental group and a non experimental group). Each group consisted of 10 elementary school children in Seoul. The examination of school maladaptation was applied to determine the homogeneity of both groups. The experimental group received 8 sessions of the Group Theraplay Program for 8 weeks from December 2008 to February 2009. After the Group Theraplay Program had ended, a post examination of Emotional Intelligence was conducted. The result of this research was as follow. When children were exposed to the Group Theraplay Program, there were significant differences in the degree of emotional intelligence in the experimental group. The children who were involved in the Group Theraplay Program experienced an increase in emotional intelligence. We conclude that the Group Theraplay Program was effective in the sub-factors of emotional intelligence under examination in this study.
