The Effect of a bibliotherapy program on the family-image, family-concept and future family values for adolescents in residential care

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a bibliotherapy program on the family-image, family-concept and future family values for adolescents in residential care. The subjects of this study were divided into an experimental group of 12 (9 boys and 3 girls) and a control group of 12 adolescents (6 boys and 6 girls) in E residential care. A total of 12 sessions (90 minutes each session) were conducted twice a week for the experimental group. Before and after the program, family-image, family concept and future family values were tested in both groups by questionnaires, and 1:1 interviews were also conducted. The data thus gathered were statistically analyzed through ANCOVA and a researcher conducted a qualitative materials investigation. The results of this study were as follows: First, the bibliotherapy program was effective in improving the mother-image. Second, the bibliotherapy program was effective in improving the family-role. Third, the bibliotherapy program was not effective in improving future family values. Forth, the 1:1 interviews and the qualitative materials showed positive changes in the family-image, family-concept and future family values for adolescents in residential care.
