ABSTRACT
\"The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of a leadership development program for university students. The leadership development program was undertaken based on the book written by Lee et al.(2009) to develop better leadership characteristics. The program was developed as the liberal arts course for a semester and comprised 13 sessions. Each session consisted of a 50 minutes lecture and 100 minutes activity program. The pre-test, post test and follow-up test regarding leadership life skills, self-esteem and self-efficacy were conducted upon each experimental group and each control group. Each group consisted of 17 subjects. The data were analyzed using paired t-test and ANCOVA. The experiment group who participated in the program showed a significant improvement of total leadership life skills and all related sub-factors, self esteem and self-efficacy at post test. The control group also showed a significant improvement in total leadership life skills and decision-making skills in the sub-factors of leadership life skills at post test. However, there was no significant improvement in self esteem and self-efficacy in the control group. At the follow-up test stage, the experiment group showed an improvement in leadership life skills, self-esteem and self-efficacy. However, the control group did not show any improvement in the above-mentioned factors. These results could lead to the preliminary conclusion that this leadership development program helped improve and develop the leadership life skills, self-esteem, self-efficacy of university students.
