ABSTRACT
\"This research investigated the relationship between social referencing behavior and temperaments in infancy. The participants were sixty-six 21 months old infants. The infants’ performances in the area of social referencing were observed in the laboratory, and their temperaments were measured through reports of the mothers of each infant. The results demonstrated that in a social referential context, the infants’ patterns of looking behavior were associated with different temperament traits. Specifically, significant relationships were found between: looking behavior towards an emoter with inhibitory control, impulsivity, and soothability, looking behavior towards the parent with fear, and looking behavior towards the object with fear, inhibitory control, and impulsivity.
Key words : social referencing, temperament, behavior regulation, parent-infant interaction, infancy\"
