The Relationship between Optimism and Subjective Well-being in Students in the Upper Grades of Elementary School: The Moderating Effect of Parent-related Stress and Peer Support

ABSTRACT
\"The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between 5th and 6th graders\' optimism, parents-related stress, peer support. and subjective well-being. 442 students in the 5th and 6th grades in elementary school participated in this study. The results of this study are as follows: First, there were significantly positive correlations between optimism and peer support, and optimism and subjective well-being, and peer support and subjective well-being. On the other hand, parent-related stress and optimism, parent-related stress and peer support, and parent-related stress and subjective well-being revealed significantly negative correlations. Second, only peer support revealed any gender differences. Particularly, girls had the ability to perceive higher levels of group support than boys. Third, parent-related stress and peer support significantly moderated the relationship between optimism and subjective well-being, that is, an interaction between optimism and parent-related stress as well as an intreraction between optimism and peer support was seen to be significant.
