ABSTRACT
Koran scripts, Hangul is a phonemic scripts but it has a syllabic writing system. The construction of vowel, consonant letters in Hanagul script were very systematic and the correspondence between vowel and consonant is very regular. Studies of Hangul reading in Korean children was reviewd to find the characteristics of decoding process in Hangul, The characteristics of Hangul scripts was as following: first, \'Kulja\' was a kinds of orthographic recognition unit. second, awareness and acquisition of grapheme-phoneme correspondence was easier than any other scripts, English, Deutsch etc.. third, a visual and phonological characteristics of grapheme and phoneme had a effect on the acquisition of g-p correspondence. And C1VC2 kulja was divided into a first consonant + vowel part((C1V) and a final consonant part(C2). This result was different from that of the C1+VC2 division in English children. This was interpreted that there might be a language universality in spelling-sound corespondence process and there might be a language specificity in spelling-sound corespondence proces.
