Parent-child Relationship and adolescent Emational Intelligence

ABSTRACT
This study was aimed to identify the effect of the parenting attitudes and communication styles perceived by adolescent on the emotional intelligence of adolescent. The subjects were 512 middle school students in Daegu city. The result showed that adolescents whose parents had parenting style combined warmth with control and communicated openly with their children attained most high scores in all sub-factors of emotional intelligence. Finally, the cannonical correlation analysis between the group of parent-child relation variables and the group of emotional intelligence vaiables revealed that parental warmth and open communication had the positive correlation with emotional expression, emotional regulation, and emotional utility of adolescents.
