Mediated effects in the relationship between career barriers and career maturity as perceived by school-leaving students

ABSTRACT
This study’s purpose is to examine the effects of the career barrier realized by out-of-school adolescents and to verify whether the resilience serves as a mediator between these two variables. To this end, 181 out-of-school subjects aged between 17 and 24 who attend out-of-school support centers in Incheon, Gwangju and Jeonnam provinces were analyzed. The research results from a technical statistical analysis, correlation analysis and a regression analysis for each variable utilized are as follows. First, no significant difference were found between career barrier, career maturity and resilience according to the demographic characteristics of the subjects. However, according to the duration of the time away from school, there appears to be a significant difference with regard to the lack of career and professional information. which is a sub-variable of the career barrier. Second, all sub-variables of the career barrier of youth outside of school appeared to have negative correlation with all sub-variables and resilience of career maturity, while all sub-variables of career maturity appeared to have positive correlation with all sub-variables of resilience. Third, the resilience of youth outside of school was found to serve as a partial parameter of the impact of a career barrier on career maturity. Based on these findings, the Implications of this study, limitations, and possible subsequent recommendation was discussed.
