The Flourishing of High School Students and Related Variables: A Structural Analysis

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to investigate structural relationships among variables related to the flourishing of high school students. The participants in this study were 550 1st, 2nd,, and 3rd grade high school students in the region of Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do. The subjects for the study completed questionnaires assessing the flourishing high school students, and family cohesiveness, peer relationship skill and stability of self-esteem. SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 26.0 were used for the data analysis. The maximum likelihood estimation method was used to examine the model fit. Goodness of fit was evaluated using the SRMR, RMSEA and the 90% confidence interval, CFI, and TLI. The major findings were as follows: First, family cohesiveness did not have a direct effect on the flourishing of high school students; whereas, peer relationship skill and the stability of self-esteem were found to affect the flourishing high school students. Second, family cohesiveness, and the stability of self-esteem were found to affect peer relationship skill directly. Third, family cohesiveness was found to affect the stability of self-esteem directly. Therefore, this study provides the theoretical basis and implications that can be used meaningfully, which shows that family cohesiveness, peer relationship skill, and the stability of self-esteem can increase the effectiveness of the flourishing of high school students.
