The Present Status and Improvement Points for the Task of the Case Manager of Child Abuse Prevention in Public Childcare Service

ABSTRACT
This study examines the perception, present status, and improvement points for the task of the case manager of child abuse prevention, which was newly established in 2020 as the demand for safe child-care support services and the need to reinforce monitoring for child-care providers indcreased. A questionnaire survey was conducted with 106 case managers of child abuse prevention working at the health family support center and healthy family and multicultural centers, 88 persons in charge of service providing institutions, and 10 members of the regional monitoring group across the nation. For data analyses, descriptive statistics and ANOVA were conducted. The results are as follows. First, educational background, majors, qualifications, and previous experience of the case managers of child abuse prevention varied and they considered ‘the case management for families with suspected child abuse’ to be the most important among their tasks, with that being said they showed the lowest level of understanding in that task. Second, the case managers were experiencing difficulties in performing major tasks other than ‘personality and aptitude tests and personality education when hiring child-care providers’. Third, it was found that the case managers need capacity-building training to perform their ‘case management tasks for families suspected of child abuse’. The findings in this study are expected to be used as basic data to improve the efficiency and expertise in the task of the case manager of child abuse prevention.
