ABSTRACT
Savoring is a way to actively increase positive emotion in daily lives. This research aims to confirm whether positive emotion induced by savoring can broaden the scope of attention and thought-action repertories, and whether it can increase the intention of prosocial behavior. For this purpose, matched sampling with savoring belief score was conducted, and each pair of subjects were randomly assigned into either the savoring group, or the control group. The final number consisted of 80 university students without mental or neural diabilitites(33 men, 47 women), and one-way ANOVA was chosen to confirm the differences between the groups. The results showed the main effects of treatment on thought-action repertories and intention of prosocial behavior for both the savoring group and the control group. However, its effect on the scope of attention was statistically insignificant. An additional analysis for testing the order effect was found to be significant, which implies that the weakening of positive emotion over time affected performance on the scope of attention task. The current research presents savoring as an effective method of intervention to increase positive emotion quickly and suggests that savoring can build individual resources by cognitive broadening and prosocial intentions
