The Effects of Cooperation on Academic Achievement Satisfaction of Fifth Graders in Elementary School: The Mediating Effect of Academic Engagement

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of cooperation on academic achievement satisfaction and the mediating effect of academic engagement on the relation between cooperation and academic achievement satisfaction of fifth grade elementary school children. Analysis was conducted using data from the second survey of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018 (KCYPS 2018) 4th grade cohort, carried out by hierarchical regression analysis and bootstrapping using IBM SPSS Statistics 26.0 program and SPSS Process Macro respectively. Verification was performed. The final analysis examined 2,331 cases, consisting of 1,163 boys (49.9%) and 1,168 girls (50.1%). The results of the study are as follows. First, academic achievement satisfaction showed a significant correlation with cooperation and academic engagement. Second, the effect of cooperation of fifth graders on academic achievement satisfaction was positively significant. Third, the mediating effect of academic engagement was significant on the effect of cooperation of fifth graders on academic achievement satisfaction. The results of this study suggest the need for intervention to promote children’s cooperation and academic engagement in promoting academic achievement satisfaction of fifth graders, early adolescence.
