ABSTRACT
The study is designed to investigate the relationships between social distancing, Korean self-efficacy, Korean learning strategy, and Korean academic achievement among foreign Korean learners residing in South Korea. The questionnaire has been prepared to collect data effectively on social distancing, Korean self-efficacy, Korean learning strategy, and Korean academic achievement, which has been used to survey 316 foreign Korean learners who are taking Korean language courses in Language Educational Centers at three universities in Daejeon, South Korea. Collected data were analyzed by using SPSS 18 and AMOS 23. The results of this study are as follows. First, social distancing had a negative direct effect on Korean self-efficacy and Korean learning strategy. Second, Korean self-efficacy did not have a significant direct effect on Korean academic achievement. However, Korean learning strategy had a significant direct positive effect on Korean academic achievement. Third, Korean self-efficacy did not have a significant mediating effect on the relationships between social distance and Korean academic achievement. However, Korean learning strategy had a significant mediating effect. Fourth, in the relationship between social distancing and Korean academic achievement, the double mediating effect of Korean self-efficacy through Korean learning strategy was statistically significant. This suggests that in order to improve Korean academic achievement of foreign learners, it is necessary to develop educational intervention programs in Korean self-efficacy and Korean learning strategy as well as social distancing.
