ABSTRACT
In this study, a meta-analysis is conducted on the study of the correlation between working memory and reading comprehension of normal children. Data were collected to December 2022, and a total of 15 papers were selected as analysis data. The characteristics of the collected data were summarized, and a meta-analysis was performed based on 58 correlation coefficients to calculate the overall effect size. The results are as follows. First, the studies mainly measure children's working memory ability through the phonological loop and central executive components. Second, the overall effect size for the correlation between working memory and reading comprehension was medium. Third, the difference in the effect size of the correlation between working memory and reading comprehension according to grade group was statistically significant. Therefore, the studies measure children's working memory ability with some working memory components, and there is a close relationship with the working memory ability and reading comprehension skills of normal children. The results of this study will serve as a basis for clarifying the validity of examining children's working memory ability as a cognitive factor related to reading comprehension task performance.
