Development and Application of Innovative Liberal Arts Education: Experience-Oriented and Student-Designed Liberal Arts

ABSTRACT

This study examines the impact of liberal arts education on the competency enhancement of college students, focusing on experience-oriented liberal arts and student-designed liberal arts at O University. We utilized the data from the core competency diagnostic survey conducted for freshmen in 2022, and conducted a paired-sample t-test on the results before and after completing the experience-oriented liberal arts curriculum. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, self-understanding ability of college students improved after completing experience-oriented character education. Second, problem-solving ability and digital literacy ability of college students improved after completing experience-oriented creative education. Third, problem-solving and communication skills of college students improved after completing the student-designed liberal arts program. Based on these results, we discuss specific ways to improve the competencies of college students based on experience-oriented and student-designed liberal arts education.
