The Development of Close Social Relationships in Adolescence

ABSTRACT
To study the characteristics of close social relationships, the question as to whether there are differences
according to gender, age, in the areas of psychological functions with middle/high/college students(n=211)
was examined. These close social relationships were evaluated through The Picture Affective Relationship
Test(PART). The results indicated that, there were differences in the types of close social relationships in
accordance with gender and age in the area of nurturing. Specifically, the percentages of friends were
highest in the male group and mothers were followed by the percentages of friends. At the same time,
the percentages of mothers were highest in the female group and friends, and were followed by the
percentages of mothers. Next, the percentages of friends were highest amongst the middle/high school
students and mothers were followed by the percentages of friends. Again, at the same time, the
percentages of mothers were highest in the college students and fathers were followed by the percentages
of mothers.
