The Moderating Effects of Hope on the Relationship between Military Life Stress and Adjustment of Soldiers

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating effects of hope and the impact of this variable
on the relationship between military life stress and adjustment of soldiers. The subjects of this study
comprised 476 soldiers. The collected data were analyzed by means of Pearson\'s correlation, hierarchical
regression analysis and too-way ANOVA. The results are as follows; It was observed that the soldier\'s
stress showed significant negative correlation with hope and adjustment, whereas their hope revealed a
significant positive correlation with adjustment. The hierarchical regression analysis indicated that their hope
had a moderating effects upon military life stress and adjustment. In terms of the relationship between
military life stress and adjustment of soldiers, higher levels of hope increase adjustment. In conclusion,
military authorities should work to help soldiers to decrease their stress. In addition, a program to enhance
the soldier\'s hope should be developed and implemented.
