ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of mother's separation anxiety and parenting guilt
feelings upon parenting behaviors among working and non-working mothers. The subjects of this study
comprised 209 mothers of 12 to 48 month old children who were attending kindergartens located in
Chungbuk. The data thus collected were analyzed by means of frequency, percentage, mean, standard
deviation, Cronbach's α, t-test, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical regression analysis using the SPSS
12.0 program. The results of this study were as follows: First, it was found that separation anxiety and
parenting guilt feelings had significant effects on their parenting behavior among both nonworking and
working mothers. Second, the interaction effects of separation anxiety and parenting guilt feelings were
significant on working mothers' over-protective parenting behavior. It is noteworthy that the effects of
mother's parenting guilt feelings on negative parenting behaviors was stronger among nonworking
mothers than working mothers, which implies that the effect of mother's psychological factors on their
parenting behavior may be different according to their employment status.
