ABSTRACT
This study is designed to analyze the trends in after-school care studies conducted ever since 1991, thus presenting the orientation of policy-making in light of the results from those studies and then providing the basis for the study of the future. This study found that overall surveys and studies have been conducted, but comparative studies on concrete cases and further studies for the improvement of qualitative standards have been so scarce that we are in need of them. Those surveys on demand for after-school care for children or on recognition have been usually focused on children\'s parents, but it is also necessary to make sure that studies should contain those of children, teachers, and officials concerned. So far, the effect of after-school care for children on children have been studied in the fields of children\'s societal character and recognition development. However, other regions of children development are also necessary. A study of school-age child care workers\' job satisfaction should not be just for present cases of the workers, but it should provide them with better and more secure environments, along with the study on their job stress and training programs. Lastly, comparative studies on child-care systems have been primarily concerned with simple comparative studies through textbooks, but they should be complemented by field studies.
