A Qualitative Research into the Life Experience Perceptions of Multicultural Youth: A Focus on the Rural

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to explore the life experiences of multicultural youth who were born in small rural cities and the teachers who teach these youth. For the purpose of this study, in-depth interviews were conducted with 9 multicultural youth and self-reported questionnaires were given to 10 teachers of multicultural youth. This study is an attempt to understand multicultural youth from an unbiased perspective and respecting their cultural diversity and recognize the cultural differences. The data thus gathered were analyzed using Colaizzi's phenomenological method and the teacher data were analyzed based on contents analysis. The perception of life experience of the cultural youth revealed 3 final categories, 6 clusters themes, and 22 clusters. The final 3 categories consist of ‘cultural’, ‘life’, ‘future’. According to the teachers for multicultural youth, multicultural youth experienced some degree of difficulty in school life, relationships with both teachers and peers but adapted well. Support plans for multicultural youth include teaching them ways to promote self-confidence, how to relate to and so as how to relate to their parents. Based on these results, the findings will provide some useful information about how to best provide future support to multicultural youth policy and accompanying plans.
