ABSTRACT
The aims of this study were to investigate how personality and playfulness related to creativity and to
examine the effects of big 5 personality traits and playfulness on creativity on the part of pre-service
kindergarten teachers. The participants comprised 252 pre-service kindergarten teachers enrolled in
Department of Early Childhood Education or Child Studies from around the greater metropolitan areas of
Seoul and Pusan, Korea. The data thus collected were analyzed by means of Pearson's correlation, and
multiple regression analysis, using PSAW 18.0. The results revealed that big 5 personality traits were
significantly related to playfulness and creativity. Additionally, playfulness was related positively to
creativity. Multiple regression analysis indicated that up to 49.1% of variance of creativity could be
accounted for by the big 5 personality traits (Openness to Experience, Conscientiousness, and
Agreeableness) and playfulness. This study suggested that these big 5 personality models and playfulness
could account for much of the variance in creativity and could therefore be used for pre-service
kindergarten teachers training and development
