ABSTRACT
This study sought to test the effects of the Humanity Education Program with the use of the virtues of
ego-resilience, emotional intelligence and self-esteem for senior grade elementary school students. This
program has been conducted eight times for both male and female students from the fifth and sixth
grades in an elementary school located in Jeju-si, Jeju-do. The experimental group consisted of twenty-six
students who were fifth- and sixth-graders of the school and hoped to take Humanistic Education. On
the other hand, the control group consisted of twenty-six students who were the same grade level as the
experimental group, but took normal classes over the same period. The measuring tools included the
Ego-Resiliency Scale, Emotional Intelligence Scale, and Self-Esteem Scale and students with the higher
scores meant they had better abilities in ego-resiliency, emotional intelligence, and self-esteem. ANCOVA
was then carried out. Virtues are utilized in order to verify the effectiveness of the Humanity Education
Programs for Elementary schools. The results indicate that the program encourages ego-resilience,
emotional intelligence, and self-esteem in senior grade elementary school students. In other words, it can
be concluded that this program is effective in improving ego-resiliency, emotional intelligence, and
self-esteem. Additionally, this research, which has rarely been conducted before, has demonstrated the
effectiveness of the Humanity Education Program utilizing the virtues listed. Accordingly, the program is
expected to make a contribution to Humanity Education research in the future.
