ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to investigate the meaning of marriage as perceived by remarried Korean
husbands in multicultural families. For the purpose of this study, 6 Korean men who remarried immigrant
women from foreign countries (China, The Philippines, Vietnam and Uzbekistan) were interviewed and the
data thus collected were analyzed by means of qualitative method including open coding and Giorgi's
phenomenological method. The results indicated that the meaning of multicultural marriage as perceived by
remarried Korean husbands in multicultural families could be categorized as follows: ‘the meaning and
vitality of life and restarting family life in midlife’, ‘relationship gaining benefit just existing only as a
partner without trust and communication’. These positive meanings of marriage could be important
motivations to maintain stable and satisfactory multicultural families from the position of remarried Korean
husbands.
