The Influence of Study Habits and Emotional Problems Regarding Life Satisfaction: Focusing on Sixth Graders in Elementary Schools

ABSTRACT
This research aimed (1) to investigate the study habits, the emotional problems and the life satisfaction of
sixth graders in elementary schools; (2) to examine whether the study habits and the emotional problems
affects the life satisfaction of the subjects. This research exercise analyzed the data of the 3rd Korean
Children and Youth Panel Research(2010). The subjects comprised 2,210 sixth graders in elementary
schools. The statistical methods used for data analysis were means, standard deviations, t-tests and multiple
regression analyses. The results were as follows. First, sixth graders in elementary schools generally believed
that they possess good study habits. The level of their emotional problems was about average. The life
satisfaction of the sixth graders in elementary schools was high. Second, the study habits and the
emotional problems affected their life satisfaction. Depression mostly affected the life satisfaction of the
sixth graders in elementary schools. As a result, the educational support systems which improve both boys'
achievement motives and girl's behavior control and reduce their depression need to be introduced in order
to increase the life satisfaction of sixth graders in elementary schools.
