The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of sociodramatic play on theory of mind and social skills of the children with autism. The subjects of this study were 18 children, who are the ages of six, seven and eight and diagnosed as high-functioning autism. The subjects were assigned into one of two groups(experimental group and control group), and each group consisted of nine children. The experimental group had 13 sociodramatic play sessions for 3 months. To analyze the results, two way ANOVAs with a repeated measure(test-time) and simple main effect tests as a post hoc comparison were used. The results of the study were as follows; First, the subjects of the experimental group increased their performance significantly more than those of the control group in TOM post test. Second, the subjects of the experimental group increased social skills significantly more than those of the control group in SSRS rated by parents. Third, the subjects of the experimental group increased social skills significantly more than those of the control group in SSRS rated by teachers. Fourth, the subjects of the experimental group improved social skills significantly while they were performing sociodramatic play. In conclusion, sociodramatic play was effective in improving theory of mind and social skills of the high-functioning children with autism.
