ABSTRACT

This study examines the role of relatedness as a mediator between proactive personality and social support in social media among MZ generation mothers. The participants were 304 mothers in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region of South Korea. Self-report questionnaires were used to collect data through both online and offline methods. The data were analyzed using Hayes’ PROCESS macro 4.1 (Model 4) in SPSS 26.0. The findings are as follows. First, mother’s proactive personality had a significant positive effect on social support in social media. Second, mother’s proactive personality also significantly increased relatedness. Third, mothers’ proactive personality significantly predicted social support on social media through the mediating effect of relatedness, and bootstrapping results showed that the indirect effect was significant. These results suggest that relatedness partially mediates the relationship of proactive personality and social support in social media among MZ generation mothers. These results underscore the importance of developing social media-based parenting support programs that promote relatedness as a basic psychological need.
